sahara desert
this
was the second in a series of four paintings measuring 26 inches by 60 inches which i completed in the spring of 2000. the
image draws from the few memories i have from the first four years of my life, growing up in maudi, a suburb of cairo. my
mother, father, older brother and i would horseback ride near the pyramids and the sphynx. one time the horse my brother
was riding galloped off into the desert away from the rest of us. it only took a few minutes to catch up with him, but he
was pretty terrified as a five year old. fortunately for me i was too young to ride alone and was passed between my mother
and our egyptian friend Said.
