sakara.jpg

sakara tomb rubbing

this painting is a replication from a black and white tomb-rubbing my mother bought in 1971 from women who were allowed (for charitable purposes) to obtain and sell images from the sakara step pyramid site.  the painting is 32 inches square and was completed in june, 2006.

heart ceremony

this is the only large acrylic painting in the collection. the image depicts the weighing of the heart ceremony with the gaza pyramids and a large sun in the background.  i found the heiroglyph in a book on ancient egyptian history and completed the painting (more than 100 hours of work) in march 1997. it measures eight feet long.

desert.jpg

sahara desert

this was the second in a series of four paintings measuring 26 inches by 60 inches which i completed in the spring of 2000.  the image draws from the few memories i have from the first four years of my life, growing up in maudi, a suburb of cairo.  my mother, father, older brother and i would horseback ride near the pyramids and the sphynx.  one time the horse my brother was riding galloped off into the desert away from the rest of us.  it only took a few minutes to catch up with him, but he was pretty terrified as a five year old.  fortunately for me i was too young to ride alone and was passed between my mother and our egyptian friend Said.
